About Us

We are a Children's Theatre Company based in Liverpool and dedicated to the fusion of education and entertainment.

Early Years and Key Stage One age groups are yearning to use their imagination and to play.

We have therefore built our company around this concept and to make life even easier we come to you! Whether a classroom, village hall, library or community centre, we'd be happy to visit.

We can adapt to suit any space- inside or outside!

Drama workshops- Fun and games, learning about characterisation, working together in groups and in partners and creating a scene together.

Storytelling workshops- Focusing on how stories are made. We will look at all the different factors that come together to create a story and then we will write and perfom a short piece to showcase what we have learnt.

Our shows have been devised and created with an educational advisor to maintain a high standard and to incorporate curriculum objectives.

  • Early years teachers can link the workshop material and performance to social and personal learning, language learning and communication, numeracy skills and attentive listening; with a focus on thinking, investigating, imagining and responding.

We incorporate English, Drama and Music for key stage one:

  • Using language and actions to explore and convey situations, characters and emotions.
  • Using music to create and understand rhythms.

Jessica Buxton

Jess has an MA in Acting from LIPA, and gained an English Literature and Drama degree prior to this. In 2016 Jess graduated from the Liverpool Everyman Writer's programme. Jess is actively working as an Actor, Facilitator and writer, but spends most of her time thinking up adventurous ways to inspire and create theatre for children.

Having heaps of experience touring with other companies, Jess decided to set up The Bookworm Players officially in 2013. Since then we have produced 11 shows and we take great pride in visiting local venues to share them with.

All of our Actors are professionally trained with DBS checks and have extensive experience of working with children. They also possess an incredible amount of energy, enthusiasm and imagination; and are essentially big kids themselves.
